Apple on Cisco IOS

by Mr. Panda on June 9, 2010

Apple had to ask Cisco for permission before the name changed from iPhone OS to IOS could be announced.

Cisco says on there blog that it has signed an agreement with Apple, which makes Apple now has the rights to the name of IOS.

So far, Cisco used the name for its own operating system for routers, called IOS, Internetwork Operating System.

As some might remember, so Apple had also started at Cisco as iPhone was originally presented. Back then it was too Francisco who owned a telephone network with the name iPhone. It is not clear what Apple might have paid for the right name of IOS.

Apple’s name change from iPhone OS to IOS is linked to the wider use of the operating system that can both run on the iPhone, IPAD and iPod touch.
