Danny Bilson ( THQ ): Advertising on TV Games is a Useless Waste of Money

by Skipper on June 28, 2010

Reached at E3 2010 the Vice President of THQ Danny Bilson was wondering about the role that television commercials have growth in the gaming industry as a whole and, specifically , the volume of units sold by individual title advertised :

” For the role they play in my company, one of the questions I have to ask myself is insistently on the real value of advertising on TV playing video games: it is probably useful if you need to sponsor games such as WWE or UFC , which after accounts are closely tied to world television sagas . But for the rest ?
Advertising on TV has a tremendously high cost , especially if I think that with two million dollars needed to send a couple of spots during the sporting event can create real campaigns on the Web, trade fairs sector or directly by retailers.
You know then what I do? I think I go on Xbox Live and PSN , and invest money there now that we spend on television advertising , because gamers today, including myself, when I turn on TV do it mainly to have fun with their consoles . “

And you, think how good Danny Bilson , or vice versa still believe in the importance of video game advertising on TV ?
