It is backed up by their announcement that both internally with their own developers in Santa Monica Studios, at Guerrilla Games, etc.. continues to push more and more out of hardware and that there is an increasing quality in the third party developed games. Coupled with Sony’s bet on 3D games within the console and through 3D movie experience through Blu-ray and other actions (ed: including Move) so it is maintained so that the PS3 will live for more than 10 years on the market.
We think further that we probably should not expect to see a preliminary announcement, although the latest consoles have held six years and then have “survived” their lives while a new generation takes the market. Example is the PlayStation 2 has sold more than 7 million during the current financial year and expected to increase.
