Various online sources reported that Google has start testing to integrate VoIP functionality in Gmail: If this proves true Gmail would become the center for communication with users, it is also expected that the option VoIP in testing will also allow users to call fixed or mobile network. It is unclear how VoIP technologies are developed and presented to the public by Google.
VoIP options would be offered as web application and accessible from any web browser. But let me tell you there is no official confirmation about VoIP by Google.
If Google introduce VoIP service then Skype will be the major competitor of Google.
A Google representative said;
“Google is always testing new products and features, but we have nothing specific to announce right now,”.
